TECH – Xiaomi is under scrutiny following allegations that it manipulated benchmark scores for its newly unveiled in-house chipset, the XRING O1. The controversy emerged after independent reviewer S. White conducted tests using AnTuTu V10, revealing a significant discrepancy between Xiaomi’s claimed performance figures and real-world results.
During the official launch, Xiaomi showcased a slide indicating that the XRING O1 achieved an impressive AnTuTu score of 3,004,137 points. However, S. White’s independent testing yielded a score of only 2,613,424 points, approximately 13% lower than Xiaomi’s claim. This shortfall places the XRING O1 behind its competitors, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400, both of which are fabricated using TSMC’s 3nm N3E process.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm’s current flagship chip, reportedly scores 2,954,535 on AnTuTu, outperforming the XRING O1 by 13%. This advantage is attributed to the Snapdragon’s custom Oryon cores. Similarly, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400, which shares a comparable configuration with the XRING O1, demonstrates superior performance. The absence of power-saving cores in the Dimensity 9400 is believed to contribute to its higher benchmark results.

Xiaomi has yet to issue an official response to these allegations. However, the company previously addressed similar concerns regarding performance throttling. In response to past accusations, Xiaomi stated that it employs temperature management strategies to ensure optimal user experience, particularly during prolonged use of demanding applications.
The XRING O1 represents Xiaomi’s ambitious foray into developing proprietary chipsets, aiming to reduce reliance on third-party suppliers like Qualcomm and MediaTek. Reports indicate that over 1,000 employees are dedicated to the XRING project, operating as a separate entity from Xiaomi to potentially avoid geopolitical scrutiny.
Despite the current controversy, the XRING O1’s development signifies a strategic move by Xiaomi to achieve greater control over its hardware and software integration. As the company navigates these allegations, the tech industry will be closely monitoring how Xiaomi addresses performance transparency and maintains consumer trust.
