Historically, Huawei’s laptops have operated on Windows. However, due to the expiration of its Windows supply license, the company is transitioning towards alternative operating systems. This shift is evidenced by the recent release of the MateBook D 16 Linux Edition, indicating a move away from Windows. Furthermore, Huawei has officially announced plans to launch HarmonyOS-powered PCs in May 2025.

The introduction of HarmonyOS into the PC market signifies Huawei’s strategic effort to diversify operating system options and reduce reliance on existing platforms. The company envisions HarmonyOS as a viable alternative, aiming to capture a significant share of the PC operating system market.
