TECH – California-based robotics startup Figure AI has unveiled the F03 battery, the world’s first fire-resistant power pack tailored for humanoid robots. Powered by a 2.3 kWh energy reservoir, this integrated unit is built in-house at the company’s BotQ facility, marking Figure’s third-generation battery system for its humanoid platform. The F03 can support up to five hours of continuous operation at peak performance—nearly double the runtime of previous models—and brings a remarkable 94 % improvement in energy density over the F01 version.
A hallmark of the F03 battery is its robust safety credentials. It is the first battery in the humanoid robotics industry to seek certification according to both UN38.3 (for shipping safety) and UL2271, a standard typically reserved for electric vehicle batteries. The battery casing is constructed from stamped steel and die-cast aluminum, designed to serve both as a structural component and protective shell. This design innovation not only improves mechanical durability and rigidity but also reduces overall robot mass and size by eliminating the need for external power packs—a necessity with older models like the F01.
Cited from Interesting Engineering, the F03 features an active cooling system capable of handling rapid two-kilowatt charging, maintain thermal balance, and shut down in case of overcharge, short circuits, or overheating. The battery incorporates layered safety measures, including internal fusing, thermal insulation, and flame arrestors. In internal “fault injection” testing, the battery successfully contained thermal runaway, preventing flames from escaping the module.

Figure’s CEO and founder, Brett Adcock, emphasizes the strategy of vertical integration—controlling every layer of the robot, from power to structure and actuation. The shift from limited-volume machining to mass-production-ready manufacturing techniques—die casting, injection moulding, stamping—supports scalable production at BotQ with projected output of up to 12,000 units annually.
The F03’s compliance with 23 mechanical, electrical, and thermal tests under UL2271 demonstrates its industrial-grade resilience. Figure plans to integrate these batteries into its next-generation humanoids, solidifying their role as a foundational component in commercial deployments across various sectors, including logistics, manufacturing, and services.
By combining fireproof design, high energy capacity, and industrial scalability, the F03 battery represents a major breakthrough for safety and performance in humanoid robotics. With certifications and vertical supply‑chain control, Figure positions this battery to help realize fully autonomous, safe, and deployable robotic assistants in real-world environments.
