SINGAPORE – Following the People’s Action Party’s (PAP) decisive win in the 2025 Singapore General Election, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his Marsiling-Yew Tee Group Representation Constituency (GRC) team engaged with residents to express gratitude for their support. The PAP secured 87 out of 97 parliamentary seats, achieving a 65.57% vote share, with PM Wong leading his team to victory in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.

On May 15, 2024, shortly after his swearing-in ceremony at the Istana, PM Wong attended a community event in Yew Tee, marking his first grassroots engagement as Prime Minister. He addressed over 1,000 residents, stating, “I decided to rush from the Istana tonight because I wanted my first event as Prime Minister of Singapore to be an event with all of you — residents of Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.” Acknowledging the demands of his new role, he added, “In my new capacity as Prime Minister, I hope you understand that… there may be new responsibilities that will make it difficult for me to attend some community events… But I assure you we have a very strong team… We will continue to work hard to provide a better home, a better living environment, and to take care of all your needs in Marsiling-Yew Tee”.

The event, dubbed “May Day Sing Along,” featured musical performances and was organized by the People’s Association. Residents expressed pride in PM Wong’s ascent, with 54-year-old entrepreneur Nusrat Jagin remarking, “I have no doubt he’ll do well. He’s someone in touch with the people and has always cared for us.”

Grassroots leader Lim Zhan Yang, 26, appreciated PM Wong’s engagement with youth, stating, “For Gen Zers like me, being truthful, candid and willing to have a conversation is what we want for a Prime Minister, and that is who Mr Lawrence Wong is”.

In addition to community engagement, PM Wong unveiled the Marsiling-Yew Tee Town Five-Year Masterplan (2025–2030), aiming to enhance connectivity, community spaces, and sustainability. Key projects include two new Downtown Line MRT stations near Yew Tee Village and Sungei Kadut, expected to reduce travel time by up to 30 minutes upon their 2035 completion. The redevelopment of the former Kranji racecourse into housing and recreational spaces, along with the transformation of Sungei Kadut into an eco-district, are also planned. Short-term developments encompass the Heart of Yew Tee Integrated Development, featuring a community club, hawker centre, polyclinic, kidney dialysis centre, and senior housing, set for completion in 2027.

Reflecting on the past decade since the GRC’s formation in 2015, PM Wong noted, “Over the last 10 years, we’ve had the joy of getting to know many families here… We’re all proud of how this town has become a home for every resident, young and old”.

The PAP team, comprising PM Wong, Zaqy Mohamad, Hany Soh, and Alex Yam, remains committed to serving the Marsiling-Yew Tee community, focusing on enhancing residents’ quality of life through infrastructure improvements and community development initiatives.
