SINGAPORE – A significant fire that erupted at a warehouse in Kranji Crescent, Singa`pore, has been successfully extinguished after a relentless four-day effort by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The blaze, which began on February 19, 2025, at approximately 10:30 am, engulfed the premises of Wah & Hua, a recycling and waste management company located at 11 Kranji Crescent. The fire primarily involved vast quantities of waste materials stored within the facility. Initial firefighting operations managed to largely subdue the flames by Wednesday evening; however, deep-seated pockets of fire persisted, necessitating continuous efforts. The SCDF employed unmanned firefighting machines to navigate the unstable structure safely and effectively.
This incident marks the fourth fire at the same location in seven years, with previous occurrences reported in March 2018, June 2023, and March 2024. In response to the recurrent nature of these fires, the National Environment Agency (NEA) has announced plans to issue advisories to recycling facilities, emphasizing the importance of stringent fire safety measures to mitigate such risks. The prolonged firefighting operation involved approximately 70 firefighters, who worked tirelessly to control and extinguish the blaze. The SCDF has indicated that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. Concurrently, the NEA is conducting its own inquiries, focusing on potential regulatory breaches and the implementation of enhanced safety protocols to prevent future incidents.
Residents and businesses in the vicinity were advised to avoid the area during the firefighting operations due to potential safety hazards and to allow emergency services to perform their duties unimpeded. The SCDF has expressed gratitude for the public’s cooperation and patience throughout the duration of the incident. This event underscores the critical need for rigorous safety standards within industries handling flammable or hazardous materials. Both the SCDF and NEA are expected to collaborate closely with such facilities to enhance fire prevention strategies and ensure the safety of both workers and the surrounding community.
