SINGAPORE – On March 2, 2025, a tragic incident occurred on Nicoll Highway in Singapore, resulting in the death of a male driver after his vehicle caught fire following a collision. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported receiving an alert about the accident around 2:10 PM. The crash, which took place on Nicoll Highway heading towards Guillemard Road, involved five cars and occurred just before the entrance to the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE).
Upon arrival, SCDF personnel found that one of the vehicles was engulfed in flames, with the driver trapped inside. Firefighters promptly extinguished the fire using a water jet. Unfortunately, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. In addition to the fatality, seven individuals from the other vehicles involved were assessed by SCDF. Two men, aged 53 and 66, were transported to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in a conscious state, while the remaining five declined further medical assistance. Eyewitness accounts and videos circulating on social media depict a blue car losing control on a slip road, colliding with multiple vehicles before coming to rest on a road divider and bursting into flames.
The Singapore Police Force has stated that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) issued an alert on social media platform X at 2:20 PM, notifying the public about the accident on KPE towards Tampines Expressway (TPE) at the Nicoll Highway entrance and announcing the closure of the highway entrance. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers on the road and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
