This incident adds to a series of recent fatal accidents involving pedestrians in Choa Chu Kang. In 2019, a 51-year-old man died after being hit by a car while crossing Choa Chu Kang Way towards Sungei Kadut. The 53-year-old driver was arrested for causing death by a negligent act.

In another case from 2017, an off-duty police officer, Norazlan Abdul Aziz, was sentenced to two weeks in jail and a five-year driving ban after he failed to keep a proper lookout and ran over an 84-year-old pedestrian, Lee Swee Huak, at a non-signalised junction near Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1. The officer stopped briefly before driving over the victim, despite a passer-by’s attempt to warn him.
These incidents highlight the ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety in the area. Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant, especially in residential zones and near pedestrian crossings.
