INTERNATIONAL – If you’ve always dreamed of becoming the next big K-pop star, this might be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
SM Entertainment, one of the biggest entertainment agencies in South Korea known for successful artists like Aespa, Shinee, Super Junior, EXO, NCT Dream, and Girls’ Generation, has just announced its first-ever global search for new girl group members. This announcement was made in a press release on Monday (June 3).
Registration for the 2024 SM New Girl Group Audition (SMNGG) is now open and will close on June 22. The audition is open to applicants from all over the world, with the main requirement being that participants must be “female-identified” and born between 2005 and 2011. This provides a great opportunity for aspiring K-pop idols from various countries.
For the first round, applicants are required to submit a self-introduction video, where they will introduce their name, age, hobbies, and talents. In addition, they need to mention any previous audition experiences and the duration of their vocal and dance training. Note that the use of makeup and filters in the video is not allowed.
Applicants also need to submit videos of themselves singing a cappella and dancing. For the vocal portion, applicants can choose one of the following songs: Atlantis Princess by BoA, Merry-Chri by BoA, All About You by Taeyeon, Bad Boy by Red Velvet, When This Rain Stops by Wendy, Spicy by aespa, or Better Things by aespa. For the dance portion, they must select one of these songs: Better by BoA, Into The New World by Girls’ Generation, Feel The Rhythm by Red Velvet, or Illusion by aespa.
Those who pass the first round will be invited to the in-person second round. The selected applicants will be individually notified about the date and location of the audition.
