INTERNATIONAL – A foreign YouTuber, known as Vaga Vagabond, is under scrutiny after releasing a video depicting himself illegally boarding a coal freight train operated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) in Sumatra. The footage, which has garnered significant attention online, shows Vagabond climbing onto the Babaranjang train without authorization, an act that violates Indonesian railway regulations.
PT KAI’s Divre IV Tanjungkarang Public Relations Manager, Azhar Zaki Assjari, condemned the incident, stating, “We deeply regret the actions that reportedly occurred on Sunday, October 27, 2024. The Babaranjang train is designated specifically for freight and is not intended for passengers.” He emphasized that such behavior not only endangers the individual’s life but also disrupts railway operations.
Assjari further explained, “According to Article 183, paragraph 1 of Law No. 23/2007 on Railways, unauthorized individuals are prohibited from being in or on parts of the train not designated for passengers, including freight cars. Violators may face up to three months in prison or fines up to Rp15 million.”

In the video, Vagabond is seen waiting near the tracks before hopping onto the moving train, actions that not only breach legal boundaries but also pose significant safety risks. PT KAI has initiated an internal investigation to determine if there was any negligence by its staff that allowed the incident to occur. Assjari emphasized the importance of safety and adherence to regulations, warning that any internal lapses would result in appropriate sanctions.
